2 John 1:4-11
4 I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father. 5 And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the Antichrist. 8 Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. 9 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, 11 for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.
The second letter of Apostle John is specifically addressed to the elect lady which refers to a woman who has already been called and chosen to be part of the Kingdom of God. She is a woman who believed in Jesus Christ and live in obedience to His teachings and passing on to her children as well.
Though it looks intentionally an advice for the ladies of the church, it seems very applicable to all of us too. John reminded a commandment which indeed have been instructed to all of us from the very beginning and that is to love one another. Moreover, He give a very clear definition of what love should be, that the action of love is based in full obedience of the commandments of our Lord Jesus Christ.
It seems easy, right? But not many want to obey still. There is no commitment to be given to submit to the obedience of Christ’s teachings as it may replace the comforts and enjoyments the world has already offered. A disbelief to Christ is an Antichrist, indeed, and it is destined to place we all do not want to be. Therefore, an anti-Christ deception is so infectious if we have not notice and recognize it. Remember the word of Jesus in Matthew 7:21, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
Therefore, as we examine the spirit of every person we met daily (personally or virtually), let the reflection of Christ be evident to us so that the Spirit that is within us who is greater than the one in this world (1 John 4:4), will be as contagious as it can be to those who observe us. Do not fall to the deception of the Antichrist, rather, rebuke and correct them and take every effort to direct them to Jesus by not acknowledging their wicked ways, unbelief of Christ and/or His teachings, and disobedience to Christ; even to the point of greeting them which John indicates as a way of taking part of these unapproved acts in the ways of God.
Instead encourage all the Antichrist that we met daily with the loving word of God, as “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”- 2 Timothy 3:16-17. It is our duty to do so, otherwise, we’ll be one of them soon, a partaker of wickedness as Apostle John had said.
Have great week ahead and God bless you all!
