1 Peter 5:6-9
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
When we are facing a stressful and difficult situation, or maybe a persecution, or could be some adversaries, or a very important decision in life; what is the best thing to do?
In a common human reactions, we tend to seek for an answer to all the questions we may think? We could be looking for an answer of all the WHYs or HOWs from our thoughts? But more than the search for the greatest answer, it could add up more to our worries and anxieties.
Peter presented a great way to deal with it. The Bible is truly a breath of the Living God given for us for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training for righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16-17) rather than being trapped to the schemes of the devil.
1. The problems and situations that we face are not unique to ourselves.
Peter says in verse 9 that same suffering is being experience by many in different parts of the world. If you think you are facing difficulties now, be reminded that you are not simply alone in such suffering. Someone somewhere has the same situation like yours or have been in that situation already.
The good thing is it could have been recorded or available to us that we may refer to on how to deal with it victoriously and not giving any chance for the devil to use the situation against God.
- Read our Bible, go back to the authoritative reference in our faith and wisdom of God.
- Seek for an advise of righteous wise men of God.
- Or Look for a person with similar or at least close to the same situation you have in your circle of friends and fellow brethren in Christ.
- Read some books or article that might be available for you and examine the thoughts and actions done.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. -1 Corinthians 10:13
2. Be On Your Guard always.
As Peter says in verse 8, Be sober-minded and watchful for the schemes of the devil. It comes like a roaring lion to devour who will be trapped by its decoy.
There is no better way than to be on our guard always in the times of trouble. As Paul says, do not let our anger lead us into sin. Do not let our actions in chaotic situations to lead us against God. There is a better approach and more powerful way to counter the lies of the devil.
- Wear the armour of God. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” -Ephesians 6:11
- Do not let your hearts be troubled. Seek for the Helper, the Holy Spirit. John 14:26-27 - “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
- Remain faithful to God as we continue to discern His Wisdom and serve Him in full obedience to Christ. 1 Cor 4:1-2 “This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”
3. Humble Before God in Casting our Burdens to Jesus Christ.
In Verse 6-7, Peter shows us the most safest and secured way to win the battle against the adversaries of this world is to keep our full submission to God as we also trust our burdens to Him.
Jesus Himself gives the best remedy to anxieties is REST. Surrender to His Authority and let Jesus takeover our boats. Cling to the hope that God is giving us that we have peace and have confidence that God is going to guide us and lead us into victory.
- Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. -Matthew 11:28
- Phil 4:5-7 - 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
- I can do all things through him who strengthens me. -Philippians 4:13
This Choose Day, let us make a wise decision to give us the Spirit of Discernment, God’s strength, and Gods Guidance. Use our very best privilege among the other people in the world, to approach the throne of God’s Grace all the time.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -Hebrews 4:16
God bless us all and Have a wonderful evening!
