Ephesians 6:18 - “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Glory be to God in the Highest! It’s the start of a long weekend for our fellow brethren here in Australia as 27th is a holiday to give way for the celebration of Australia Day! Looking at this beautiful moment in the History of the discovery of this great land by the Westerners and became a country that we now knew as Australia.
I remember the time when I was reviewing the History of this land as part of our preparation for the Australian Citizenship Examination, the first Australian migrants were rooted from Judeo-Christian faith. This mission works grew and later have been embraced as the primary faith movement in this land.
As we are also partakers of the great thing this land has to offer, it won’t be an abuse to include this land in our prayers as well. There are many things that has happened recently in this nation which stir up its people both in their personal and spiritual lives.
The least, which people think, we can do is to pray; to us, who knew God more than anyone else, this is the most everyone can give regardless of our social and spiritual statuses in this land. Our prayer activities are not mere physical responses of physical activities of this world. Instead, our acts of prayers is an act of overflowing grace through spiritual divine appointment and encounter with our God.
Paul is encouraging us once again to pray in Spirit in all occasions, not only in the events we feel obliged to pray. As the famous quote says “Pray hard when it is hard to pray.” We do not limit our prayer plainly in asking God when we are in trouble or we want God to intervene in uncontrollable situation. Prayer has greater benefits than just present help.
As the suggested method in prayer, we pray in Spirit. We need to transpose from our physical being and activate to spiritual being when talking to our God, who is a Spirit.
John 4:24 - “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
A lifestyle of worship is being developed to those who seek God, where we come to him for two important things His Spirit and His Truth. The one who approaches the throne of God, must come to know Christ as our mediator to God.
John 14:6 - “Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
We are being washed away from all lies of the devil and being exposed to the truth about God through Jesus Christ. Those who pray in Spirit is also praying in Truth, knowing the perfect will of God through transformation to the likeness of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Praying in Spirit keeps us in the unity of Truth and Spirit of God which leads us to abide in the Will of The Father over our lives that our prayers are not simply a source of present help in the times of trouble but an overflowing abundance of mercy and grace and favour from Above. Praying to God in Spirit benefits our soul as it edifies us by His wisdom in heeding His voice and responding in humility and submission to Him at all times.
Paul did not stop from His encouragement, He also give an advice of being alert and keep on praying at all times. It is not a feeling of need to pray, but a power to unleash the Greatness of God whether the request is far from possibilities of men. To God whom we serve, all things are possible (Luke 1:37), and also to those who has faith in Him (Matthew 17:20).
In giving thanks to God, rejoice always and pray with all humility with a grateful heart. As we offer gifts to God with cheerfulness, let our requests be lifted up to Him with a pure heart while being ready for His will to be known to us.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. -Philippians 4:23
God bless us all and have a wonderful long weekend!
