John 9:2-7
1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." 6 Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud 7 and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.
Today, our office celebrated the IDPwD or International Day of Person With Disability where I was given the opportunity to engage and interact with them, the PwD who are advanced in competing to their respective choice of sports. This organisation and their competitions and leagues are double the size of the Paralympics, indeed.
Living with disabled persons is not new to me and I am always grateful to God for showing me His awesome power in making the lives of these people easier these days. Though healing of physical disabilities are miraculous in the sight of men, the healing of spiritual disabilities are miraculous to sight of people who are closest to us, our families and friends.
Disability by definition is a condition or disorder that limits the person’s senses, movements, or activities. Spiritual disabilities, though not obvious, is manifesting to the physical bodies. Someone who lives in fear, loses his confidence to do the possible tasks he may have been assigned with. Someone who has no sense of purpose, live a life centred in self gratification alone.
Witnessing these person with disabilities and knowing how much they achieved in life given their existing conditions, they live a normal life like normal people do. I can see how whole these people are by simply showing themselves brighten up by the wholeness of their spirit that they may do things that seems impossible to happen.
Our perception of disabled person is that they can’t do much or live a normal life, or worse, we look them as cursed. But Jesus is teaching us to discouraged such views. Disability is not healed by another disability. Disability is healed by God’s compassion, the energy that reveals His glory alone.
Jesus healed two sets of people in John 9:2-7. First, Jesus healed His disciples’ spiritually broken thoughts who underestimated the things around them as a result of bad things. Second, Jesus healed the physically disabled man to show that He posses the divine authority and power of God to advance the work that was assigned to Him.
Healing is intended to all who are sick, not just physically but also spiritually. Jesus Christ has restored us from our brokenness as a guarantee of His Salvation for us whose faith rest in Him. Have we experienced the glory of God in our brokenness? Then, let us choose to share our stories of miracles, of God’s compassion in us, of His mercy and goodness that follows is everyday!
Great Evening and God bless us all!
